FINAL INSPECTION
About
Just before sunrise, a worker at the Ardent Ridge Data Campus finds Senior Building Inspector Martin Vega dead in a restricted technical area of the unfinished build. The site is full of real fall hazards, the schedule is already slipping, and the project wants its crews back to work. An accident would suit everyone.
Homicide Detective Lena Ortiz isn’t ready to call it anything yet. The scene doesn’t sit right, and Martin had come back after hours for a reinspection that someone on this project wanted to go away.
The people with reason to fear his report make an uncomfortable list: a project executive fighting a brutal deadline, an electrical superintendent whose work Martin had rejected, the client’s commissioning manager, the young city inspector Martin mentored and still corrected in writing, and a security chief who swears his access system never misses a thing.
Every one of them is hiding something. Not every secret is a motive for murder.
With her partner Aaron Bell reading the crews, analyst Nadia Price refusing to let “the data shows” go unchallenged, and a sergeant who keeps asking which assumption has gone invisible, Lena builds a timeline from badge swipes, camera angles, meeting logins, and vehicle records. It is clean and convincing. The harder she tests it, the more she has to ask what it actually proves.
And Martin’s wife and daughter are waiting for the truth, not the tidiest version of it.
Final Inspection opens the Morrow Homicide series: a grounded American police procedural set in a booming Arizona desert city, with a sharp female lead, a real investigative team, and a case built one hard-won piece at a time.
